The Ministry of Defense has denied rumors about the reasons for Khmara's discharge from military service

Newly appointed Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara has been discharged from military service in accordance with the law, as the position of head of the Ministry of Defense must be held by a civilian.

The Ministry of Defense emphasized that Khmara’s discharge is not related to the findings of the medical examination commission, as had been speculated on social media.

According to the ministry, Khmara passed the military medical examination in accordance with the stringent standards for the SBU’s special forces and was deemed fully fit for military service.

The Ministry of Defense explained that the basis for the dismissal was a provision of the law concerning generals and admirals who do not hold a permanent position and are on standby.
