The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported errors and "duplicates" in its databases

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported errors and "duplicates" in its databases

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that the Ministry of Defense’s registries, which are used during citizen screenings, contain errors, “duplicate entries,” and inaccuracies regarding people’s status. He expects the ministry to organize this data in the near future to avoid situations where those with deferrals or exemptions are subject to checks.

The military registration system in Ukraine must operate more accurately and without errors, especially when it comes to screening citizens during mobilization measures, where any inaccuracy in the data can create confusion and unnecessary conflicts. This is exactly what Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated when commenting on the work of the registries maintained by the Ministry of Defense.

According to him, there are currently situations in the databases where the data is not entirely accurate, “duplicates” appear, or there are no notes indicating that a citizen is entitled to a deferment or exemption, and this complicates the work during checks. He emphasized that he expects rapid changes to the system that will prevent such errors and make the process more transparent and understandable. “I hope that in the near future, significant changes will be made to the Ministry of Defense’s registries regarding the individuals included in them, so that it will be easier to work during inspections, to avoid duplicates, errors, or citizens without the appropriate mark who are entitled to deferment or are reserved,” Klymenko noted.

He also explained that the police do not make decisions independently within this system but act solely on the basis of data received from military structures, which is why the accuracy of the information is critically important. According to the minister, this will help avoid differing interpretations of situations where the question arises as to whether a person can be mobilized or not.

Separately, Klymenko emphasized that police officers undergo training on proper communication with citizens and adherence to the law while performing their duties. He also stressed that the state needs to staff military units, but this cannot happen in violation of the law or by exceeding authority. “The state’s need to staff its units must under no circumstances overlap with violations of the law or the abuse of authority when working to notify citizens,” he said.

The minister added that the role of the police is limited to assisting the TCC in performing their functions, while the primary responsibility lies with the orderly and accurate operation of state registries.

In Ukraine, 1,556 civilians have been injured by Russian mines since the beginning of the year.

Earlier in the Sumy region, a 17-year-old boy was injured in an explosion. The incident occurred near a border village in the Khutir-Mykhailivska community, where he rode his motorcycle over an explosive device.

Dozens of partner countries have also joined Ukraine’s humanitarian demining coalition.
