The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appointed a diplomat to liaise with the Belarusian opposition

Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga has appointed Yaroslav Chornogor as ambassador-at-large. The diplomat will be responsible for engaging with democratic forces in Belarus and representatives of other countries unfriendly to Ukraine.

Yaroslav Chornogor himself announced this on his social media accounts.

Yaroslav Chornogor will be responsible for issues related to democratic transformations, as well as engagement with democratic forces and national movements in unfriendly countries. Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of a separate position of special representative for Belarus, but such an appointment has not yet taken place.

According to the publication, it was precisely due to the delay in finding a candidate that the visit of Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to Kyiv was postponed. Yaroslav Chornogor holds a Ph.D. in history and serves as director of the Russian and Belarusian Studies Program at the “Ukrainian Prism” Foreign Policy Council.

He conducts research on Ukraine’s foreign policy, information security, countering Russian propaganda, as well as political processes in Belarus and Russia.
