Germany is proposing to develop an alternative to the Tomahawk in collaboration with Ukraine

Germany has called on Europe to consider the possibility of jointly developing missile systems with Ukraine as an alternative to the American Tomahawk missiles.

This was stated by Roderich Kiesewetter, a defense policy expert for the CDU party.

According to him, the U.S. decision not to deploy Tomahawk cruise missiles in Germany is a mistake that could weaken European security. He emphasized that the lack of medium-range systems affects the ability to deter threats.

Kiesewetter believes that Europe should more actively develop its own defense capabilities. He cited the joint development of missiles with Ukraine, which could be ready by 2030, as one option.

He also warned that refusing to deploy such systems could be perceived by Moscow as a sign of weakness.

Security expert Nico Lange expressed a similar view. According to him, Europe needs its own long-range capabilities, independent of U.S. decisions.

He added that the Russian Iskander systems deployed in Kaliningrad pose a threat to European countries, and without alternative systems, this problem will remain relevant.

The United States has scrapped plans to deploy a battalion equipped with long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers in Germany. This decision is part of Washington’s broader strategy to reduce the U.S. military presence in Germany.

As a reminder, the Pentagon is withdrawing some U.S. troops from Germany.
