A major exhibition marking the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster has opened in Germany

A multimedia exhibition titled “The Chernobyl Disaster: 40 Years Later, but Still Relevant” has opened in Potsdam, Germany, at St. Nicholas Church.

This was reported on the Amal Berlin Ukraine Facebook page.

The art project brings together the work of Ukrainian and international artists to remind the world of the global threats to nuclear safety in the context of modern warfare.

The exhibition, organized by activists from the NGO “PUSH-UA e.V.” and the publishing house “Portal,” demonstrates the deep connection between the events of 1986 and today’s challenges.

Forty years after the accident, the issue of radiation safety has once again become critical due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“Russia continues to withhold archival documents about the disaster and, fearing the historical truth, is playing a dangerous game by seizing nuclear power plants, turning them into a theater of war and a means of nuclear blackmail,” the event organizers note.

They emphasize that today the entire world has become a hostage to the Kremlin’s aggressive actions at nuclear facilities.

The “Nuclear Scar” project features international posters by designers from Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Ecuador, provided by the Kharkiv-based association “4th Block.”

Visitors can also view unique archival photographs by Viktor Marushchenko, who documented life in the exclusion zone over the course of two decades.

An important part of the exhibition is the presentation of the German translation of the book “Reactors Don’t Explode,” featuring illustrations by the Seri/graph studio.

The visual series by artists Anna Ivanenko and Zhenya Polosina helps viewers better understand the complex history of the disaster through the language of contemporary graphics.
