A soldier was detained in Poltava following a false alarm and threats on social media

In the Poltava region, law enforcement officers tracked down and detained a servicemember who had deserted his unit and, according to the Military Law Enforcement Service, had publicly threatened violence and arson. He has been taken to his unit for questioning, and the case materials are being forwarded to investigative authorities. This is stated in a press release from the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

 

In the Poltava region, military law enforcement officers, together with the police, detained a serviceman who had left his post without authorization and, according to the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is implicated in a case involving public threats on social media. This refers to a man whom the media have already dubbed the “Poltava arsonist,” who gained notoriety following a series of high-profile videos.

According to the Military Law Enforcement Service, the soldier allegedly used social media to publicly incite violence and threaten to carry out arson and terrorist acts against military personnel. The agency noted that during the identity check, his involvement in the videos, which had previously been widely circulated online, was confirmed. “During the identity check, it was established that the man is the subject of the high-profile videos, known in the media as the ‘Poltava arsonist,’” the Military Law Enforcement Service stated in its report.

After his arrest, he was taken to a Military Law Enforcement Service unit to determine all the circumstances and reasons for his unauthorized absence from his unit and his subsequent actions. The Military Law Enforcement Service added that materials are currently being prepared for transfer to pre-trial investigation authorities.

It is separately noted that representatives of the State Bureau of Investigations are already reviewing the collected materials, and investigative actions regarding the incident are ongoing.
