Zelenskyy announced plans to increase scholarships

Zelenskyy announced plans to increase scholarships

Discussions are underway in Ukraine regarding an increase in student scholarships, and the Ministry of Education and Science is already preparing the relevant decisions. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that this issue was raised during his trip to Rivne and his conversations with students. The final details of the changes have not yet been approved. In his Telegram post, the president also spoke about his trip to Rivne and his conversations with students at a vocational college.

The issue of increasing student scholarships has returned to the government’s agenda following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s trip to Rivne, where he met with students at a vocational college and representatives of local businesses and discussed how young people enter the labor market after graduation, and what needs to be changed in the education system to make this transition easier and more realistic.

Separately, during these discussions, the topic of financial support for students was raised, particularly the amount of scholarships, which, according to the president, need to be updated. The Ministry of Education and Science is already working to develop specific solutions and models for change, although final figures or timelines have not yet been announced.

In his statement, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted: “The Ministry of Education and Science will develop a decision regarding a possible increase in scholarships; the matter is already being addressed.”

At the same time, the government had previously outlined the parameters of future changes. In particular, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported back in the spring that scholarships could double starting in September, and for students in state-funded programs, basic payments should amount to at least 4,000 hryvnias, although these parameters also require final approval and further details.

Separately, the government and relevant agencies had previously announced a phased increase in all types of scholarships—from minimum academic scholarships to named and presidential scholarships—both at universities and colleges, where a simultaneous increase in payments is also planned.

In parallel, some changes have already taken place: presidential scholarships increased starting in September 2025, and the government’s overall plans include a further increase in all student payments in 2026; however, the implementation of these steps will depend on budgetary constraints and final government decisions.
