The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Responded to the Prosecutor General's Statement Regarding the Safe Containing Dollars
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the photo of a safe containing cash released by NABU is related to the "Carthage" special operation. However, the investigation has never claimed that this safe was found on the premises of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
During the court hearing, SAPO prosecutor Mykola Karas noted that the sources of these funds are not yet being disclosed in the interests of the investigation, and he also rejected the defense’s claims that the photo allegedly pertains to another criminal case.
At the same time, during the searches of the Prosecutor General’s Office, detectives seized $50,000 from the workspace of Aydin Khudiev, the head of one of the departments, and also documented his use of an Audi Q8, which is inconsistent with his official income. In addition, during the investigation, an expensive watch and jewelry were found in the possession of the official’s first deputy.
SAP Prosecutor Mykola Karas reported this during a court hearing on the selection of a preventive measure for Yelyzaveta Ivakhnenko, a defendant in the case.
Prior to this, Prosecutor General Kravchenko made the following statement: “The safe shown in the photo circulating in the media and on social networks is not located in the Office of the Prosecutor General. It has no connection to either my office or any other employees of the Office of the Prosecutor General. Claims to the contrary are false.”
Earlier reports indicated that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) are conducting a large-scale special operation, codenamed “Carthage,” at the Office of the Prosecutor General in connection with a case involving possible “protection rackets” for fraudulent call centers.
Prosecutor General Kravchenko went missing after the NABU and SAP operation began. According to UP’s sources in political circles, Kravchenko drove into the government district, after which no one saw him.
Later, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko resurfaced and stated that he had no connection whatsoever to the cover-up of illegal call centers and had not issued any instructions to facilitate their operations.
