A Memorial Forest has been created in Sweden to honor Ukrainian foresters who served as defenders
In southern Sweden, a “Forest of Remembrance” was planted in honor of Ukrainian forest rangers who died defending Ukraine. This is the first such memorial forest plot in Sweden as part of an international project by the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine.”
“Forests of Remembrance” is a memorial project by the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine,” under which memorial forest plots are created in honor of fallen forest ranger soldiers.
In 2026, the project went international. Memorial forests have already been planted in Latvia and Croatia, and now such a forest has been established in the Kingdom of Sweden as well.
The land for the memorial forest was provided by landowner Göran Bengston. He said he supports Ukraine and agreed to have trees planted on his property in honor of Ukrainian defenders.
“We strongly support Ukraine, and I readily agreed to have a forest planted on my land in honor of Ukrainian forest rangers. I am glad that Sweden’s first memorial sign will be installed right here,” said Göran Bengston.
The landowner’s entire family—his wife, Sandra Falleborn, and their children, Alve and Avrid—joined in planting the trees.
They are the ones who will inherit this land and the Memorial Forest, which they created together with Ukrainian foresters.
The location of the project adds special significance to it. The plot is situated near a culturally significant area where the remains of Swedish settlements from past centuries have been preserved.
Fir tree saplings donated by Latvian foresters were used for the planting. Latvia had previously created its own “Forest of Remembrance” as part of this international project.
Memorial forests in various countries are intended to serve as a symbol of remembrance for Ukrainians who gave their lives for freedom and as a testament to borderless support for Ukraine.

As a reminder, the Commercial Court of Zakarpattia Oblast fully upheld the claim filed by the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office and ordered the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” to pay over 83 million hryvnias in compensation for damage caused by illegal logging in the “Hutsulshchyna” National Nature Park.
Earlier, three officials from the forestry sector in Kherson Oblast were notified that they were suspected of illegally cutting down more than 2,200 trees on the territory of the Velykooleksandrivka Forest District.
The prosecutor’s office prevented the destruction of 20 plots of century-old forest near Bukovel.
Also, after nearly five years of legal proceedings, a complex of historic buildings dating from 1830 to 1910, located in the historic part of Podil at the foot of Zamkova Hill, was returned to the Kyiv community.
