In September, passenger traffic across Ukraine's border dropped sharply

In September 2026, passenger traffic across Ukraine’s state border decreased by approximately 1.1 million crossings compared to August, totaling about 3.3 million people. This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a briefing.

According to the agency, in September there was only a slight predominance of outbound travel over inbound travel, which is a traditional seasonal phenomenon associated with vacations and personal matters being handled abroad. Nearly half of the total passenger traffic traditionally occurs at the border with Poland, followed by Moldova and Romania in terms of volume.

The September figures also included the movement of approximately 50,000 Hasidic pilgrims who traveled to Uman for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations, most of whom have already left the country. In total, over 25.1 million citizens crossed Ukraine’s state border during the first eight months of 2026.
