In Vinnytsia, an eighth-grader brought a training grenade to school; there are casualties
On May 26 in Vinnytsia, an incident occurred at a school involving the detonation of a training grenade brought to the school by an eighth-grader. As a result of the incident, two teenagers sought medical attention, complaining of feeling unwell.
This was reported by the Vinnytsia Regional Police.
According to preliminary data, around 8:30 a.m., one of the students brought an object resembling a training grenade to school and left it on a desk. Two classmates picked it up, after which it detonated.
Law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
According to the student, he received the object from a relative who is in the military.
As a result of the explosion, two teenagers sought medical attention, complaining of a burning sensation in their eyes. According to preliminary assessments, no visible serious injuries were reported among the children.
The principal of Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 17 commented on the situation:
“Unfortunately, a child brought a grenade to school. It was their first class. Later, we learned that he told the children he had such an object, that it was a training model made of plastic and was safe. But he didn’t take it out of his backpack. Then an explosion occurred. Fortunately, no one was injured. The children have no visible injuries. All emergency services arrived quickly. Doctors examined all the children who had complaints; fortunately, there were few of them. The parents were notified. Experts are investigating all the circumstances,” she noted.
Earlier in Zhytomyr, a grenade exploded in one of the high-rise buildings. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties.
Earlier, in the town of Storozhynets, Chernivtsi Oblast, a man was detained after throwing a combat grenade at police officers.
As a reminder, on the night of February 13, in the city of Vynogradiv, Zakarpattia Oblast, an explosion occurred on the grounds of a private residence where the family of an employee of the local police’s operational unit lives.
