Power Outages Affect Four Ukrainian Regions After Attacks on Energy Infrastructure

Russian attacks have left parts of four Ukrainian regions—Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, and Chernihiv—without electricity, the National Energy Company Ukrenergo reported on Facebook. Repair crews are already working where conditions are safe, but in the evening, nationwide power restrictions for businesses may be applied.

Ukrenergo explained that energy facilities were targeted, causing new outages. “As a result of drone strikes on energy facilities and shelling in frontline regions, new power outages occurred as of this morning,” the company said. Repair teams are operating wherever security allows, but restoration may take time, as some work is carried out under the threat of repeated attacks. The energy system is still recovering from previous large-scale strikes.

Consequently, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., industrial power restrictions may be implemented nationwide. Ukrenergo also noted that electricity consumption was 11.1% higher than the previous day as of 09:30. The company attributed this to cloudy weather, which reduced the output of residential solar panels, forcing more households to draw power from the main grid.

Residents were urged to use electricity sparingly during evening hours. “Please consume electricity prudently. Limit the use of high-power appliances from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. ,” the company said. Where possible, they recommend shifting energy-intensive activities to after 10 p.m. to reduce grid load and avoid stricter restrictions.

It should be recalled that Intercity high-speed trains between Kyiv and Kharkiv have been temporarily suspended, and fuel prices in Ukraine increased on 18 March, with both A-95 gasoline and diesel becoming more expensive.
