Ukraine Is Preparing a Drone Deal with Germany
Ukraine and Germany are working on a new defense agreement in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, the countries are discussing the creation of a joint European anti-ballistic missile system, which is intended to strengthen protection against missile attacks.
According to the head of state, one of the main topics of the talks was strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and developing joint defense projects. “We are also preparing a ‘Drone Deal’ with Germany and working on the creation of a joint European anti-ballistic missile system. I am grateful to Germany and personally to Chancellor Friedrich Merz for their support and for the steps taken toward a European anti-ballistic system. This is the only way to guarantee reliable protection of lives in Europe against missile threats,” Zelenskyy stated.
The president emphasized that Ukraine highly values Germany’s role in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense system. According to him, Berlin not only provides military aid but also makes an important contribution to international support programs.
Separately, Zelenskyy thanked Germany for its participation in the PURL program. It is thanks to this support that Ukraine is able to procure anti-ballistic missiles, which it currently needs most urgently to protect its cities. “Thanks to this, we have the opportunity to procure scarce anti-ballistic missiles. And this is very important now, when Russia is counting on brutal ballistic strikes to enable it to continue the war,” the president noted.
Zelenskyy has not yet specified exactly what the future “Drone Deal” will entail. However, his statement suggests that it involves expanding cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the production, supply, or development of unmanned technologies.
In addition, Kyiv continues to work on establishing a European anti-ballistic coalition. Ukraine is already in talks with partners regarding the first meeting in this format. The main goal is to unite the efforts of European nations to develop systems capable of effectively intercepting ballistic missiles.
According to Zelenskyy, strengthening missile defense remains one of Ukraine’s key priorities. Against the backdrop of regular Russian attacks, it is precisely modern air defense systems and anti-ballistic protection that can significantly reduce the threat to civilians and critical infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement following a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Ukraine is working to organize the first meeting of countries that are set to join the so-called anti-ballistic coalition. This involves cooperation among partners in the creation and development of systems to defend against ballistic missiles.
