The Ministry of Education has lowered the admission score for one of the majors

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has introduced adjustments to the admission requirements, lowering the minimum competitive score for prospective pharmacists from 150 to 140.

The ministry emphasized that the 150-point threshold remains mandatory for a number of socially sensitive and responsible fields of study related to safety, rights, and people’s lives and health. There are no plans to mechanically lower this threshold for all fields of study, as this would risk admitting applicants who would face serious difficulties mastering complex curricula as early as their first year.

The reduction in the score requirement for “Pharmacy” is a compromise solution adopted in light of the realities of martial law. In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science has provided for other concessions: for transfer to vacant state-funded spots in majors that receive special state support, the threshold has been lowered to 120 points (instead of 130). Regional coefficients for higher education institutions near the front lines and certain preferential mechanisms for applicants from temporarily occupied territories and zones of active combat operations also remain in effect. At the same time, the government is already developing changes to the 2027 admissions campaign; the corresponding draft law has been submitted to the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada for consideration.

Earlier, Ombudsman Lubinets called for lowering the passing score on the National Multisubject Test (NMT) from 150 to 130 points due to the difficult conditions for taking exams during martial law.

The Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment commented on the situation in the Odesa region, where participants in the National Multisubject Test spent nearly 13 hours at the testing center due to prolonged air raid alerts. According to the agency, graduates were offered the option to reschedule the exam for an additional session, but they refused and decided to wait until the testing was completed and take the NMT that same day.

As a reminder, foreigners in Ukraine may be required to take a paid Ukrainian language exam.
