Ukraine is preparing for Zelenskyy's talks with Madyar
Kyiv has officially signaled to Budapest its readiness to facilitate direct contact between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Péter Magyar, the leader of the leading Hungarian party “Tisa.”
This was reported by Interfax.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga confirmed that the Ukrainian side is awaiting a response and is interested in turning a new page in relations.
Ukrainian diplomacy sees the changing political landscape in Hungary as an opportunity to build truly good-neighborly and open ties.
According to the foreign minister, the signals received from Budapest offer hope for resolving strategic issues that have long been stalled by the country’s official authorities.
“We believe that we have received positive European news from this country, which opens up new opportunities for us and gives us a chance to begin a new chapter of good-neighborly relations in our shared history. The people deserve such open relations,” Andriy Sibiga emphasized during a conversation with journalists.
The top priority for future cooperation is lifting Hungary’s veto on Ukraine’s path to European Union membership.
This involves critically important decisions, including the approval of the 20th package of sanctions against the aggressor, the provision of a 90-billion-euro loan, and the formal opening of negotiation clusters.
In addition to global political issues, the parties must agree on the development of border infrastructure and joint actions on the European track.
Ukraine demonstrates full readiness to implement the highest standards of the EU and the Council of Europe regarding the protection of the rights of national minorities, which was one of Hungary’s key demands.
Orbán conceded defeat in the parliamentary elections
As a reminder, in Hungary, the opposition has had a chance to defeat Orbán for the first time in 14 years.
The opposition party “Tisa” has a chance to win two-thirds of the seats in the Hungarian parliament in the April 12 elections, which would allow it to amend the constitution and key laws.
