Ukraine has promised Moldova assistance in the event of an emergency on the Dniester

Ukraine has expressed its readiness to provide support to Moldova and offer solutions should the hydrological situation on the Dniester River worsen. This was announced by Moldova’s Minister of the Environment, Gheorghe Hazder, following talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, Oleksandr Kravchenko.

The parties discussed the water level in the Novodnistrovsk Reservoir and agreed to maintain constant communication to monitor the situation. At the same time, the Moldovan side is paying special attention to the stable operation of the water intake station that supplies Chisinau with drinking water.

In late July, the Moldovan government decided to implement a 30-day state of heightened readiness in the energy and hydrological sectors. In the event of a further drop in water levels, the country plans to restrict water consumption for non-essential needs—specifically for irrigation and industry—while maintaining the priority of supplying the population with drinking water.

Earlier, Ukraine and Moldova agreed on joint actions in response to the critical drop in water levels in the Dniester River. Over the next two weeks, water releases from the Dniester Reservoir will be reduced from 100 to 85 cubic meters per second.

As a reminder, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned its citizens about heightened checks, interrogations lasting several hours, and instances of coercion to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense when attempting to enter Russian territory.
