Ukraine is asking the EU to pay €2.7 billion for reforms
The Ukrainian government has submitted to the European Commission a package of documents required to receive €2.7 billion under the Ukraine Facility. This funding is available to Ukraine upon the implementation and completion of a series of reforms stipulated in agreements with the EU.
This was announced by European Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier in Brussels on April 27.
Ukraine has asked the EU to transfer €2.7 billion to it following the successful adoption of a series of draft laws under the Ukraine Facility financing mechanism.
“Regarding the 2.7 billion, I can confirm that Ukraine has indeed submitted its request for payment. We are currently processing this request,” Mercier said.
He added that he cannot currently provide a specific assessment of the request or a date when Ukraine might receive these funds.
Mercierdoes not believe Ukraine will join the EU in the coming years.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the results of a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters, where three key issues were discussed.
Zelenskyy called on the European Unionto speed up Ukraine’s accession process.
Ukraine hopes that the European Union will open all six negotiation clusters regarding the country’s accession this year, and also anticipates the possibility of closing at least one of them by the end of the year.
