A gang driving a car with fake U.S. Embassy license plates was detained in Odessa

In Odessa, law enforcement officers detained a group of criminals who were traveling in a car with fake diplomatic license plates. The plates on the vehicle bore a code typically assigned to the U.S. diplomatic mission.

Yulia Girdvilis, head of the communications department of the National Police of Ukraine, reported this to RBC-Ukraine in a comment to the original source.

During the apprehension, the license plate number D 002 817 was recorded on the vehicle; however, the police officially denied that the car belonged to the U.S. Embassy. The operation was carried out by officers from the Odessa Directorate of the Department of Internal Security. Investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the gang’s activities within the city.

Law enforcement officials warn that the use of counterfeit special license plates is part of criminal schemes to conceal movements. Details regarding the gang’s composition and their specific objectives will be released later, following the completion of initial investigative measures.
