The Verkhovna Rada responded to the conflict between members of the "Batkivshchyna" party and Judge Dubas

The Verkhovna Rada responded to the conflict between members of the "Batkivshchyna" party and Judge Dubas

The High Council of Justice (HCJ) has appealed to the Verkhovna Rada’s Rules Committee, demanding that measures be taken against members of the “Batkivshchyna” faction due to their pressure on Judge Dubas, who is presiding over the case of Yulia Tymoshenko. The Council urged lawmakers to refrain from actions that could undermine the authority of the judiciary.

This was reported by Glavkom, citing the HJC’s decision of April 23.

The appeal was prompted by a complaint from High Anti-Corruption Court Judge Vitaliy Dubas regarding interference in his work during the hearing on the seizure of assets belonging to the leader of “Batkivshchyna” and her husband. Specifically, MP Kostyantyn Bondarev shouted insults at the judge and a NABU detective after the decision to hold the hearing in closed session. The judge was forced to postpone the hearing and appealed to the Prosecutor General to open criminal proceedings.

The Office of the Prosecutor General found no grounds to open a case, and the High Council of Justice, in its decision, characterized the actions of the MPs as “excessively emotional criticism” and disrespect for the court, rather than direct interference. The Council noted that aggressive statements are often the result of a negative perception of procedural decisions and do not always pose a real threat.

As a reminder, Judge Dubas previously set bail for Yulia Tymoshenko at 33.28 million hryvnias in a case being investigated by anti-corruption authorities regarding Russian Federation activities and internal abuses.

Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the Batkivshchyna party, stated that Judge Dubas, in her words, is carrying out a political order from the “new corrupt owners of the country” and has repeatedly violated the law and ethical standards.

On March 12, 2026, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine rejected a motion to recuse Investigating Judge Vitaliy Dubas in the criminal proceedings against Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the Batkivshchyna party.
