Ukraine has revealed the details of its upcoming sanctions package against Russia

Ukraine has been actively working for about a month on drafting the 22nd package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. This was announced by Vladislav Vlasyuk, the President’s Representative on Sanctions Policy.

The new, 22nd package will be based not only on proposals but also on substantial evidence. In particular, an interim package of restrictions is expected in September, targeting individuals involved in the abduction and deportation of Ukrainian children.

A separate set of sanctions is being prepared against the organizers and participants of the so-called elections to the Russian State Duma in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, whom Vlasyuk has assured will be included on the sanctions lists of Ukraine and the EU. Final approval of the 22nd package is expected in late October.

Among the key areas of the upcoming restrictions, the measures targeting Russia’s military-industrial complex—due to the issue of Western component supplies—will constitute the largest share. In addition to the military-industrial complex, the package will include a large-scale financial component, as well as energy restrictions, the specifics of which will depend significantly on the actions of the U.S. and Iran.

The European Union has approved its 21st package of sanctions against Russia in response to its aggression against Ukraine. The new restrictions target the financial sector, the energy sector, the military-industrial complex, the shadow fleet, and schemes to circumvent sanctions.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for tougher sanctions following Russia’s attack on a tanker near Romania.

The EU will impose sanctions against Belarusian oil refineries for supplying gasoline to Russia.
