Ukraine and Lithuania Have Agreed on an Energy Partnership

Ukraine and Lithuania have agreed on key areas of cooperation in the energy sector. Following these agreements, the two countries signed a declaration on energy partnership.

Shmyhal signed the declaration with Energy Minister Lukas Savickas during a meeting in Kyiv.

According to him, the energy partnership between Ukraine and Lithuania will focus on:

  • restoring energy infrastructure;

  • decentralized energy production and the development of energy storage systems;

  • gas infrastructure and diversification of supply;

  • regulation and integration into European markets;

  • mutually strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure.

“In the presence of representatives from the largest energy companies of both countries, we discussed the development of B2B partnerships and specific business cooperation projects,” the Ukrainian minister added.

 A joint Lithuanian-Ukrainian coordination group for energy partnership was also established.

“Lithuanian companies are ready to participate in energy recovery projects, particularly within the framework of the Energy Community. We must strengthen our cooperation with Lithuanian manufacturers, engineering firms, and technology suppliers,” Shmyhal added.

He thanked Lithuania for the equipment provided to Vilnius CHPP-3 and expressed hope that procedures for transferring equipment from Kaunas CHPP for Kryvyi Rih’s needs would be expedited.

“An important area is gas security and the integration of energy markets. Expanding supply routes, the possibility of using the Klaipėda liquefied natural gas terminal and regional gas infrastructure, and the use of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities by European partners. We will deepen cooperation in all these areas,” the minister added.

Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal wrote about this on his social media accounts.

Lithuania is building a new line of defense along its border with Russia and Belarus.

As a reminder, Lithuania is considering the possibility of purchasing air defense systems from South Korea.

Since the beginning of the year, Lithuanian border guards have discovered 12 underground tunnels near the border with Belarus, through which migrants attempted to enter the country. The tunnels on Lithuanian territory were up to 25 meters long, according to Deutsche Welle, citing the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.
