Zelenskyy Outlined the New Defense Minister's Main Task

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outlined key tasks for the new Minister of Defense, Yevhen Khmara: to restructure Ukraine’s defense system and strengthen it as much as possible ahead of winter.

According to the head of state, this involves improving the production and procurement of weapons, ensuring their timely delivery to the military, and strengthening air defense.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the military must receive everything necessary to hold their positions, repel Russian attacks, and conduct active operations.

Separately, the president instructed that Ukraine’s long-range capabilities be strengthened to deliver significant retaliatory strikes against Russia in response to its attacks. Protecting Ukrainian airspace should also be a priority.

Zelenskyy spoke highly of Khmara’s previous experience serving in the “Alpha” unit and noted that the new head of the Ministry of Defense has already established cooperation with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapatiy.

The president emphasized that Ukraine must enter the winter with its defense system as fully prepared as possible.

Ukraine needs to develop a mechanism for holding elections even in wartime, ensuring the right to vote for all citizens. This opinion was expressed on August 18 by former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

As a reminder, on August 18, the Verkhovna Rada received nominations from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to appoint Yevhen Khmara as Ukraine’s Minister of Defense and Andriy Sybiga as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
