Ukraine could receive €9.1 billion from the EU in June
The European Commission has announced that Ukraine may receive €9.1 billion in financial assistance from the European Union in June. This refers to a comprehensive support package intended to strengthen financial stability and support Ukraine’s public sector needs.
This was announced by European Commission spokesperson Balázs Újvári during a briefing.
When asked by the media about the date Ukraine would receive the first transfers as part of the €90 billion in EU aid, he said it was not yet possible to specify a date.
“As I’ve already said, there are several procedural and technical steps that need to be taken—not just on the Ukrainian side… In addition, we need to verify whether the conditions set out in the Memorandum, which are related to the first tranche under the macro-financial assistance program, have been met. So this verification will need to be done, and then we will be able to determine when the first transfer can be made," the spokesperson said.
He clarified that in total, the EU plans to transfer 9.1 billion euros in June.
"Part of it will go toward defense needs—5.9 billion—and 3.2 billion under the macro-financial assistance program in the form of budget support. I can’t say exactly how this will be structured yet, but we plan to transfer 9.1 billion euros in June," Ujvari explained.
According to EuroPravda sources, the first tranche of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine’s budget—€3.2 billion as part of a €90 billion loan—is expected to arrive around mid-June.
