Ukraine unveiled the Coral air defense system launcher for the first time
Ukraine publicly demonstrated for the first time the self-propelled launcher for the “Coral” anti-aircraft missile system, designed, in particular, to intercept ballistic targets. The launcher was demonstrated during a missile launch from a system mounted on the chassis of a Czech Tatra truck.
The system is being developed to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. In addition to aerial and ballistic targets, the “Coral” missile is planned to be used to engage ground-based and surface-based radar-contrast targets.
The missile weighs 450 kg, of which 36 kg is the warhead. The guidance system combines inertial navigation, radio correction, and an active radar homing seeker. The missile is 4.8 m long and has a diameter of 230/300 mm.
Work on the system began even before Russia’s full-scale invasion. The State Kyiv Design Bureau “Luch” is responsible for its development. The missile’s specifications have changed significantly during the project’s development.
Initially, the stated range was up to 30 km and the altitude up to 10 km, while the missile’s weight was approximately 300 kg. At the same time, the developers noted that the specifications could be adjusted depending on the customer’s requirements.
