Ukraine has documented grain imports to Egypt from the occupied territories
The Ukrainian Embassy reported that ten ships carrying agricultural products exported from Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories had been unloaded at Egyptian ports. According to a diplomat, these incidents were recorded following talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The Ukrainian side emphasizes that this involves illegally exported grain and other agricultural products. In Kyiv, officials continue to draw the attention of international partners to the problem of Ukrainian resources being exported from the occupied territories via Russian supply schemes.
The diplomat recalled a conversation between Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in early April, during which he pledged not to accept shipments of stolen Ukrainian grain from territories temporarily occupied by Russia.
“Following that conversation, one Russian ship carrying a shipment of agricultural products loaded in Ukraine was indeed turned back. And it must be understood that after that, nearly 10 other ships entered the ports of Alexandria, Dumyat, and others and unloaded. We are responding accordingly,” Nagorny said.
The ambassador noted that Ukraine is responding to these incidents using political and diplomatic tools, and recently the state has turned to legal measures. According to him, the embassy has already forwarded six requests from the prosecutor’s office to the Egyptian side seeking assistance in criminal proceedings regarding the illegal export of grain specifically to Egypt.
Hungary has lifted some restrictions on Ukrainiangrain.
