Ukraine has signed a number of important agreements with Bulgaria in the field of defense

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Bulgaria’s interim Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov signed a 10-year security cooperation agreement and a series of strategic protocols in Kyiv on March 30, 2026.

The leaders announced this at a joint press conference in Kyiv, according to Glavkom.

The document provides for joint work in the field of European security and the official approval of Bulgaria’s contribution to NATO’s support mechanism. During the negotiations, special attention was paid to the protection of critical infrastructure and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, where Ukraine’s experience is recognized as key to the stability of the Alliance’s eastern flank.

The parties also signed a protocol regarding the H.S. Rakovski Gymnasium in Bolhrad, which guarantees members of the largest Bulgarian diaspora the opportunity to receive an education in their native language. In addition to humanitarian issues, the partners identified priorities in the fields of defense technologies, innovation, and energy. Specifically, this involves the development of a “gas corridor” and a railway connection between Alexandropol and Odesa to diversify energy supplies. Thus, the Bulgarian delegation’s visit laid the foundation for a long-term partnership in the economic and security sectors.

Andrey Gyurov, Bulgaria’s interim prime minister, began an official visit to the Ukrainian capital on Monday, March 30.

Ukraine and Bulgaria are working on launching a passenger rail service through Romania.
