Ukraine’s power grid weathered a period of record-breaking heat in August without resorting to rolling blackouts.
During the period of abnormally high temperatures, the power grid managed to avoid a power shortage.
“According to preliminary forecasts, Ukraine’s power grid weathered the record-breaking August heatwave without implementing power outage schedules,” Shmyhal stated.
The minister noted that the power shortage was avoided by adjusting the schedules for summer maintenance at power plants, particularly at nuclear power plant units.
Shmyhal also thanked energy sector workers who continued to work despite challenging weather and safety conditions.
“I am grateful to all energy workers who, under extreme weather and security conditions, continued to repair and restore facilities, connect new capacity, and build protective measures,” the minister added.
The Ukrainian power grid continues to operate amid a full-scale war and significant seasonal loads, while energy workers carry out repair work and strengthen the protection of energy infrastructure.

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi stated that Ukraine’s energy sector faces a funding shortfall of approximately 650 million euros ahead of the heating season.
