Ukraine's Freya missile defense system will be equipped with German radars for intercepting ballistic missiles

The Ukrainian company Fire Point has fully completed development and successfully tested its new guided anti-ballistic missile, the FP-7.x, which was developed based on Soviet-era interceptors and is capable of maneuvering in response to aggressive commands from a command center.

In addition, the developers have signed an agreement with the German company Hensoldt for the supply of TRML-4D radar stations, which will be integrated into the advanced Freya missile defense system. This was announced by the company’s chief designer, Denis Shtilerman.

The German radars will handle target detection and tracking, transmitting coordinates to the Ukrainian C2 center to guide the interceptors. The FP-7.x missile itself is made of composite materials, is 7.25 meters long, and is capable of reaching speeds ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 meters per second. The semi-active infrared homing seeker for this munition is planned to be developed jointly with another well-known German manufacturer—Diehl Defence.

Ukrainian developers are working on a new air defense system called Freya, designed to intercept ballistic missiles and operate independently of other countries. At the same time, development is underway on the FP-9 ballistic missile system, which is being touted as a key element in future deterrence against Russia.

Testing of the new European Freya air defense system, which is described as a more affordable alternative to the American Patriot system, may begin in Ukraine in the near future.
