"The Ukrainian people took to the streets not for the minister, but for themselves and their hopes," said Fedorov
Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov commented on the protests that took place following reports that he might not be appointed to the post of defense minister. According to him, people took to the streets not because of him personally, but because of their own expectations for change.
“The Ukrainian people did not take to the streets for Minister Fedorov specifically. The Ukrainian people took to the streets for themselves. The hopes that had emerged were cut short on the battlefield and in the skies. Why is the trajectory now breaking down, and are we veering off course? There is such a risk,” he said.
According to Fedorov, society reacts strongly to decisions that, in his view, do not align with the values taking shape in the country.
He also noted that he had spoken with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier that day.
“Today, this isn’t about me, but about the root of the problem that we need to solve. If we solve it, we have enough people in the country who can fill various positions,” Fedorov emphasized.
Earlier, protests against Fedorov’s resignation as defense minister took place in a number of Ukrainian cities.
Fedorov made this statement during a briefing.
As a reminder, Fedorov accused Syrsky of blocking the Defense Ministry’s initiatives.
Zelenskyy offered Fedorov a new position following his resignation.
Fedorov stated that he had served Zelenskyy for seven years without any political ambitions.
