Ukrainian drone operators were asked to guide a ship through the Strait of Hormuz

The Ukrainian company TAF Industries has received a request from foreign shipowners to provide military consulting services to protect a vessel in the conflict zone in the Middle East. 

This was reported by BBC News Ukraine.

The request involves having Ukrainian specialists on board the vessel equipped with anti-drone systems, specifically interceptor drones, to repel attacks by Iranian “Shahed” drones. The service will be considered completed after the ship successfully and safely passes through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the company’s founder, Oleksandr Yakovenko, this is the first such request for a private company from Ukraine in the context of maritime security in this region.

Currently, the initiative is in the request stage, as the company must obtain permission from the State Export Control Service to implement it. 

Military consulting of this caliber has become possible thanks to the successful experience of Ukrainian drone operators in countering unmanned aerial vehicles on the territory of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Shipowners view the engagement of specialists as a means of “unblocking” a logistics route currently affected by the war in Iran.

The implementation of this project will depend on the decision of the Interdepartmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation Policy. The company emphasizes that this involves intellectual and practical assistance, not the direct export of equipment. It is expected that the documents will be submitted to government agencies for review in the near future.

U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Iran to conclude an agreement as soon as possible amid stalled negotiations and reports of a possible extension of the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports.

Iran has again restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz following the conflict with the U.S. Tehran claims this is a response to Washington’s actions.

Trump stated that the US wants to obtain Iranian uranium by any means necessary.
