The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has issued an official storm warning and a Level I hazard alert due to expected heavy rains in several regions of Ukraine on September 12. According to meteorologists, the deteriorating weather conditions may disrupt the operations of energy and utility companies, as well as cause transportation disruptions and pose a risk of localized flooding.
The severe weather will sweep across the country in waves, beginning at night. On the night of September 12, heavy rains are expected in the Lviv, Volyn, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, and Vinnytsia regions. During the day, the area of heavy precipitation will shift to the Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions, while thunderstorms are possible in some parts of the western and northern regions. Heavy rain is also forecast for Kyiv during the day, with temperatures ranging from +15 to +17 degrees.
The Level I hazard warning indicates 15 to 49 millimeters of precipitation over a 12-hour period or less, which poses risks of reduced visibility on roads, hydroplaning, and damage to power lines.
