Ukrzaliznytsia has introduced new rules for train operations during emergencies
Ukrzaliznytsia has clarified the updated rules for train operations during air raid alerts. The new regulations apply to the yellow and red threat levels.
During a yellow threat level, trains will continue to run. Train arrivals, departures, and other operational procedures will be permitted, as well as passenger boarding and disembarking at train stations, stops, and platforms.
Passengers will be able to remain at railway stations and stops at their own discretion. They will be informed of the threat level and the locations of the nearest shelters.
In the event of a red threat level, passenger boarding and disembarkation will be suspended. Passengers, railway employees, and other visitors will be directed to the nearest shelters.
At the same time, train service for trains already in transit will not be automatically suspended. Decisions regarding each train will be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the current situation and information on aerial threats provided by Ukrzaliznytsia’s monitoring teams.
“Ukrzaliznytsia’s monitoring teams monitor the security situation around the clock. If airborne targets are detected that may pose a threat to passengers or railway employees, they promptly notify railway personnel, after which, if necessary, measures are taken to move people to shelters or other safe locations,” the statement reads.
“Ukrzaliznytsia” will also disperse passenger flows and rolling stock to prevent crowding. If necessary, the operation of certain trains may be restricted or temporarily suspended. At train stations and stops, passengers will receive additional information via public address systems, information boards, the company’s website, and its app. Recommendations on how to respond to different threat levels and routes to the nearest shelters will also be published.
“Separately, provisions have been made to supply employees who work directly with trains with additional personal protective equipment—protective vests and helmets. The new rules will remain in effect for the entire duration of martial law,” the company emphasized.
On the night of September 16–17, Ukrzaliznytsia suspended train service 111 times due to drone threats. Currently, some trains are experiencing delays.
