Ukrzaliznytsia is introducing new children's cars on two routes
Ukrzaliznytsia is launching six new children’s compartment cars. The first three have already undergone a major refurbishment and will be used on the Lviv–Odesa and Kharkiv–Ivano-Frankivsk routes. The remaining three cars are scheduled to be added to passenger trains in the near future.
"We are selecting the longest routes for these cars to ensure comfort even on journeys that take many hours. This car will run from Odesa to Lviv. This is one of our longest routes. It will be especially popular this summer," said Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, according to a correspondent for Interfax-Ukraine.
According to him, these cars, which currently look brand-new, have undergone a complete renovation.
It is noted that tickets for children’s cars from Lviv will be available starting April 24, from Odesa on April 25, from Kharkiv on May 2, and from Ivano-Frankivsk on May 3.
Ukrzaliznytsia clarified that tickets for these cars will be available only through the UZ mobile app. Their cost will correspond to the cost of second-class tickets of the same class on the same train.
In the app, these cars will be specially marked as "Children’s." Additionally, children up to and including age 5 will travel on trains for free and will not require a separate ticket.
Children’s cars are equipped with additional handrails in the aisles adjusted to children’s heights, safety guards for the upper shelves, changing tables and fold-down seats in restrooms, playpens for safe sleeping, and bottle warmers for baby food.
The cars are also equipped with additional folding ramps. Among other options, children’s trains will offer a menu featuring cheese sticks or nuggets with buckwheat.
Ukrzaliznytsia emphasized that the project includes an educational component integrated into the travel experience. Specifically, a children’s fairy tale was created for the project in collaboration with one of Ukraine’s leading storytellers, Oleksandr Dermanksy. The fairy tale will be broadcast in audio format in the cars every evening after departure from the starting station.
The children’s train cars were created in partnership with Visa.
"It is fundamentally important to us that every project and every technology brings real benefits to people. That is how this project came about in collaboration with our long-standing partner, Ukrzaliznytsia. All cars are designed around the concept of a fairy-tale Ukrainian forest, which has its own characters," noted Anastasia Nenasheva, Senior Marketing Director at Visa for Eastern and Southeastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.
