Ukrzaliznytsia is launching retro trains in time for Constitution Day
Ukrzaliznytsia has announced a Summer Steam Locomotive Weekend on the Haivoron Narrow-Gauge Railway, which will take place on June 27–28 to mark Ukraine’s Constitution Day. The main attraction of the event will be sightseeing trips on vintage trains pulled by two unique historic locomotives, including the country’s oldest operating steam locomotive, No. 159-4-95, built in 1938, as well as the Er 798-71 steam locomotive, manufactured in 1954.
A rich cultural and artistic program has been prepared for festival guests, along with tours of the famous railway town of Haivoron, traditional Podillia cuisine, and charity fairs featuring local delicacies and handmade souvenirs, with proceeds going to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
For the convenience of passengers, the railway operator has launched additional shuttle cars to Haivoron from Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa, which will depart in the evening on June 26 and 27 and arrive at their destination at 8:00 a.m. the following morning. Tickets for the retro trips and special direct cars are now on sale on the official website, via the mobile app, and at ticket offices. The Haivoron narrow-gauge railway, with a track gauge of 750 mm and a length of about 130 km, runs through the Vinnytsia and Kirovohrad regions, making it the longest operating narrow-gauge railway in Ukraine and one of the longest in Europe.
Ukrzaliznytsia has changed the schedule for commuter trains in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Ukrzaliznytsia has warned of train delays due to shelling.
