The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate is ignoring the court's decision to return the Bogoyavlensky Monastery in Kremenets to the state
The religious organization of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate refuses to comply with the current court ruling regarding the return of the complex of buildings of the Holy Epiphany Convent, located in the city of Kremenets in the Ternopil region, to state ownership.
This was reported by Vasyl Ilchyshyn, director of the Kremenets-Pochayiv State Historical and Architectural Reserve, which directly manages this architectural landmark. Despite the fact that more than a month has passed since the final court verdict was issued, representatives of the religious organization are completely blocking the process of transferring the property.
To verify compliance with the court’s decision, the head of the reserve and two representatives of the State Enforcement Service visited the monastery grounds. At the site of the monument, they encountered organized resistance in the form of about a hundred aggressive individuals, including a significant number of older visitors and minors. The crowd, mobilized through Telegram channels affiliated with the UOC-MP under the pretext of an alleged forced eviction, shouted insults and curses at the officials. At the same time, representatives of the reserve emphasized that they had not created any obstacles for anyone to perform religious rites or prayers in the church.
Attempts by the enforcement officers to establish an official dialogue with the leadership of the religious community proved fruitless. The nuns of the monastery stated that the abbess was not present and deliberately refused to provide her contact phone numbers. Representatives of the UOC-MP are currently attempting to challenge the eviction and have filed a cassation appeal against the decision of the Western Commercial Court of Appeal. However, as emphasized by the administration of the state reserve, the fact that a cassation appeal has been filed does not, by law, suspend the ongoing enforcement proceedings, so the complex of buildings must be immediately returned to state control.
