The government has funded repairs to the dam on the Danube
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated 49.4 million hryvnias from the state budget’s reserve fund on a non-repayable basis to the Odesa region to carry out urgent emergency repair work on the protective dam along the Danube River.
This funding will help prevent a man-made emergency in the Izmail District, where a hydraulic structure is collapsing at the 97-kilometer mark of the river. If the dam breaks, there is a direct risk of flooding the artesian wells that supply drinking water to nearly 100,000 residents of Izmail and surrounding communities.
Vitaliy Kindrativ, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, noted that the condition of the protective dam requires an immediate response, and the allocated funds will help to promptly begin work. He emphasized that this decision is aimed primarily at ensuring the safety of Izmail’s residents and protecting the territories adjacent to the Danube. The implementation of the project will strengthen the region’s protection against emergencies and ensure adequate living conditions for the local population.
