The government proposes granting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the powers currently held by the Security Service of Ukraine
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has registered a draft law “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine ‘On Sanctions’” with the Verkhovna Rada, as announced by Taras Melnychuk, the government’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada. The bill would grant the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine the right to proactively submit proposals regarding the imposition, lifting, or modification of sanctions for consideration by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC).
Currently, according to Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions,” only the Verkhovna Rada, the President, the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Bank, and the Security Service of Ukraine have this right. The government proposes to expand this list by officially including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This was announced by Taras Melnychuk, the government’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, in a Telegram post.
