The government has allocated nearly 5 billion hryvnias for shelters for schools and kindergartens
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the allocation of funds to ensure safe conditions in educational institutions, which will allow tens of thousands of children to attend school in person or through a hybrid model.
This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
In total, 113 projects are planned for implementation in schools in 2026, with approximately 5 billion hryvnias in subsidies allocated for this purpose with support from the World Bank. Special attention was given to preschool education: over 972 million hryvnias will go toward the construction of 18 underground shelters for kindergartens in nine regions, including Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, and Kherson. Priority is given to frontline communities and facilities scheduled for completion by the end of this year. Such measures are critically important for minimizing disruptions to the educational process due to constant air raid alerts and threats from Russia. The implementation of the program will significantly improve civil protection in the country’s most vulnerable regions.
On April 15, a judge of the Dniprovskyi District Court of Kyiv announced a verdict in a high-profile case involving the purchase of equipment for shelters at inflated prices.
In September 2025, the prosecutor’s office requested the search and arrest of Olga Drozdova, head of the Education Department of the Dniprovskyi District State Administration, who was accused in the case of purchasing vegetable cutters and chairs for shelters at inflated prices.
