First Ukraine–US–Russia talks held in Abu Dhabi

On 23 January, negotiations began in Abu Dhabi between delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. The first session has already taken place, with the Ukrainian side maintaining near-hourly contact with its team. This is the first trilateral format of its kind in a long time, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky said the talks focus on parameters for ending the war in Ukraine. “Ukrainian positions are clear. I set the framework for our delegation, which remains in constant contact – Rustem Umerov, Kyrylo Budanov, David Arakhamia, Serhiy Kyslytsia. Tomorrow General Hnatov, the Chief of the General Staff, and HUR representative Skibitsky will join,” he added.

The president stressed it is too early to draw conclusions about the content of the talks, but highlighted that both Ukraine and Russia have expressed a willingness to end the war. “Russia must be ready to end the war it started,” he said.

The Ukrainian delegation works in continuous contact with Kyiv, allowing real-time coordination and clarification of positions. Talks will continue the following day, with US participation providing additional support and guarantees for Ukraine.
