In Odessa, a man attached a grenade to a businessman's car
Law enforcement officers in Odesa apprehended a man who had attached a grenade to a local businessman’s car. The incident occurred in late April in the Kyivskyi district of Odesa. A passerby spotted the dangerous object, after which police and bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene.
This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odessa region.
According to the Odessa Regional Police, the grenade was attached to the door of the entrepreneur’s car. The explosive device was seized and sent for forensic examination.
During the investigation, law enforcement identified the perpetrator. He turned out to be a resident of another region. During searches, his vehicle and other physical evidence potentially relevant to the investigation were seized.
First Deputy Chief of the Odessa Regional Police Department No. 1, Denys Chub, stated: “Currently, investigators have notified the suspect of his suspicion of acquiring, storing, and carrying ammunition without the permission required by law.”
The suspect’s actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The penalty under this article provides for up to seven years of imprisonment.
The court imposed a pretrial detention order on the man, with the option to post bail in the amount of nearly 500,000 hryvnias. According to police, the suspect exercised his right to post bail.
Currently, law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation and establishing all the circumstances of the incident, as well as the possible motives for the crime. The Kyiv District Prosecutor’s Office in Odesa is overseeing the proceedings in the case.
Earlier, a court imposed a pretrial detention measure on a resident of Okhtyrka suspected of attacking law enforcement officers. According to the investigation, he threw a grenade at the feet of police officers, after which he was detained and taken into custody.
