In Odessa, a monument to a Russian military commander was protected from attacks

A protective structure has been erected over the monument to Soviet military commander Ivan Chernyakhovsky in Odessa.

This is reported by Telegram channels.

The monument, located near School No. 56 on Artur Savelyev Street (formerly Chernyakhovsky Street), has been hidden from view by a structure made of shields. Against this backdrop, information is circulating on social media suggesting that the monument is being prepared for removal; however, according to Telegram channels, the structure is actually protecting the monument from debris.

The monument was erected in 1984. It was created by sculptor Anatoly Chubin.

Ivan Chernyakhovsky is considered one of the most prominent figures in the Soviet military command during World War II. He became the youngest front commander in the history of the USSR and was twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. During the war, he commanded armies and fronts and participated in major offensive operations of the Red Army.

He was killed on February 18, 1945, in East Prussia by shrapnel from an artillery shell, with less than three months remaining until the end of the war.

As a reminder, Klitschko revealed what will replace the former Lenin monument.

One of the Okhmatdyt buildings has been entered into the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.
