In Odesa, a law enforcement officer was charged with justifying Russia's aggression

On July 2, the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), announced that it had served a notice of suspicion to a law enforcement officer from the Odesa region who is suspected of justifying Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and making public statements in support of the leadership of the aggressor state.

During covert investigative activities in another criminal proceeding, it was revealed that the lieutenant colonel supported the actions of Russia’s military and political leadership, praised the President of the Russian Federation, and endorsed the war he had launched against Ukraine. DBR officials could not ignore such a shameful fact.

The law enforcement officer has been notified of his status as a suspect under Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (glorification of individuals who carried out the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine, committed by a public official).

  • The court ordered him to be held in pretrial detention. The suspect has also been suspended from his position.
  • The penalty under this article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
  • The Odesa Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Southern Region is overseeing the proceedings.
