A professor at Odessa National Technological University was dismissed following an investigation that confirmed the use of Russian during classes and on exam papers.
This was reported by the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language.
The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a student who provided copies of exam papers containing questions in Russian.
During the investigation, the university confirmed the violation. The professor himself explained this by citing “computer problems” and the use of old exam papers to avoid disrupting the exam session. He also noted that he had communicated in Russian in response to students’ inquiries.
Based on the results of the inspection, a report was drawn up regarding the violation of language legislation, after which the professor was dismissed.
According to the law, the language of the educational process in Ukraine is the state language.
In the city of Dolynska, Kirovohrad Oblast, a language conflict at a local store resulted in criminal proceedings. According to the victim, he asked the store owner to switch from Russian to Ukrainian. In response, the woman kicked him out of the store and struck him with her keys during the altercation.
