At the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital, doctors and staff paid tribute to 13-year-old Ivan, who became an organ donor after his death and saved the lives of four patients.
This was reported by the hospital’s press service.
The boy was admitted to the hospital with a severe traumatic brain injury. Despite the doctors’ efforts, they were unable to save him—brain death was declared.
At the most difficult moment, Ivan’s parents consented to posthumous organ donation. The boy’s mother, Oksana, said that the thought of helping others came almost immediately.
“When we realized that the irreparable had happened, one of the first thoughts was—donation. I think that was his choice… Ivan was always very kind and generous,” she noted.
Thanks to the family’s decision and the work of the transplant specialists, four patients who were in critical condition were given a chance at life.
As a sign of gratitude, the medical staff gave the boy a “guard of honor,” bowing their heads.
The story resonated widely with the public. On social media, users are expressing their condolences to the family and thanking them for their courageous decision, which helped save others.
