Ukraine may introduce a new state award—the Order of Europe
Ukraine may introduce a new state award—the Order of Europe. The relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada has recommended that parliament adopt the corresponding bill No. 15359 in its second reading and as a whole.
The Order is proposed to be awarded to Ukrainian citizens, foreign nationals, and stateless persons for outstanding contributions to supporting Ukraine’s European integration, strengthening the country’s security and resilience, developing international cooperation, and promoting democracy, peace, and good-neighborly relations.
The bill, which amends the Law of Ukraine “On State Awards of Ukraine,” was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading on July 1. The document has now been recommended for final adoption.
The Czech right-wing populist party SPD has stated that it will seek to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Czech Republic’s highest state award—the Order of the White Lion.
The decision to revoke Poland’s highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a unilateral act by the president. Under Polish procedure, the president may initiate the revocation of an award, but the corresponding act requires the countersignature (co-signature) of the Prime Minister of Poland.
