Winter is expected to return to Ukraine: forecast for April 6–12

The second week of April in Ukraine will be marked by a gradual drop in temperatures, accompanied by snow and frost. Following a relatively warm weekend, temperatures will begin to fall, and weather fronts will bring rain to most regions.

This is according to data from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

  • April 6 (Monday): The start of the week will still be relatively warm, especially in the center and south (up to +15...+21°C). However, in the east and northeast, ground frosts down to 0...-3°C are possible at night. The first rains will begin in the western regions.

  • April 7 (Tuesday): A noticeable drop in daytime temperatures by 5–7°C is expected across the country. In the west, north, and central regions (Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions), light frosts are possible at night. Daytime temperatures will range from +5...+11°C.

  • April 8–9 (Wednesday–Thursday): the period of heaviest precipitation. Most regions will see rain, with wet snow in some parts of the northern, central, and western regions, and the sky will be mostly cloudy. Daytime temperatures will not exceed +8...+13°C.

  • April 10–11 (Friday–Saturday): Precipitation will gradually subside, but the weather will remain cool. Nighttime temperatures will range from +1 to +6°C, with light fog possible in the morning.

  • April 12 (Sunday, Easter): According to preliminary forecasts, the holiday will pass without significant precipitation. Partly cloudy skies are expected, with daytime temperatures rising to a comfortable +13°C and nighttime temperatures around +5°C.

In the Carpathians and the Carpathian Foothills, the start of the week may be accompanied by wet snow at night, and the average temperature in the mountains will remain at +5...+7°C. The weather will traditionally remain the most stable and warmest in the southern regions and Crimea, although rains starting Tuesday will cause a temporary cooling there as well.

Forecasters note that the average monthly temperature for April 2026 is in line with the long-term average. Despite a wet midweek, a return to true winter or prolonged frosts is not forecast. A sustained warming, when temperatures rise above +20°C, is expected in the second half of the month.

March in Sweden was also the warmest on record.
