In Ukraine, specialists with salaries of up to 48,000 are being sought ahead of the heating season
As the heating season approaches in Ukraine, employers are increasingly seeking specialists whose work is essential to the operation of heating systems, power grids, ventilation systems, and generators. Demand for these professions is rising as preparations for winter get underway.
At the same time, salaries for most of these specialties have risen over the past year. Salaries for certain specialists can reach 48,000 hryvnias.
What Kinds of Specialists Are Employers Looking For?
Ahead of the heating season, companies need power engineers, electricians, plumbers, mechanics, boiler room operators, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) specialists, heating system installers, electrical mechanics, and other technical specialists.
Compared to August 2025, the number of job openings for electricians in August 2026 increased by 8%, for energy specialists by 9%, and for boiler room operators by 13%.
At the same time, there was a significant increase in vacancies for ventilation engineers—by 40%—and for heating system installers—by 57%.
Demand for generator repair technicians rose by 5%. This is due to the need to maintain equipment used during power outages.
Conversely, employers have been seeking electromechanics, plumbers, mechanics, and HVAC specialists less frequently.
Job seekers are also more actively looking for such jobs
Job seekers’ interest in many professions for which employer demand has increased has also grown.
Compared to last year, the number of applications for electrician positions rose by 28%, for power engineers by 32%, and for heating system installers by 141%.
The largest increase was recorded among candidates for generator repair technician positions—the number of applications rose by 169%, or nearly double.
How Much Do Specialists Earn?
Despite a decline in both demand and supply for certain professions, median salaries for nearly all specialists have increased over the past year.
Salaries rose the most for power plant workers—by 32%, to 33,000 hryvnias—electromechanics—by 24%, to 39,000 hryvnias—and HVAC specialists—by 24%, to 26,000 hryvnias.
Salaries for boiler room operators rose by 22% over the year—to 20,000 hryvnias—and for electricians—by 20%, to 30,000 hryvnias.
Median salaries for heating system installers rose by another 17–19 percent, to 48,000 hryvnias; for generator repair technicians, to 33,000 hryvnias; and for plumbers, to 35,000 hryvnias.
For mechanics and electricians, the figure rose by 14% to 40,000 hryvnias.
The highest median salary among these specialists in August was for heating system installers—48,000 hryvnias.
Where Are the Most Job Openings?
The Kyiv region had the most relevant job openings in August. There was active demand there for mechanics, HVAC specialists, electricians, generator repair technicians, plumbers, and power engineers.
Median salaries for some professions in the region were higher than the national average. For example, power engineers were offered 40,000 hryvnias, compared to an average of 33,000 hryvnias across Ukraine.
Specialists are also in high demand ahead of the heating season in the Poltava, Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Vinnytsia regions.
OLX Job notes that the rise in median salaries for most technical professions may indicate competition among employers for experienced specialists. At the same time, pay remains one of the key criteria when choosing a job.
