Cameras for automatically detecting red-light violations are being tested in Ukraine
Ukraine is testing a system for automatically detecting vehicles running a red light. The first sections equipped with these cameras may appear in the near future.
“We are currently testing this system, by the way. I think we’ll soon have the first such sections where these cameras will be installed,” said Biloshitsky.
According to Oleksiy Biloshitsky, the system for automatically detecting red-light running is primarily relevant for cities.
It is expected that the use of such cameras will help influence driver behavior at intersections and improve compliance with traffic rules.
Oleksiy Biloshitsky also noted that in the future, the approach to installing automatic enforcement cameras may be expanded to cover other traffic violations.
Currently, speed cameras are primarily installed in areas with a high concentration of traffic accidents. At the same time, the police are considering the possibility of using them for additional purposes.
In particular, this involves monitoring public transportation lanes.
According to Biloshitsky, this will help discipline drivers, ensure the unimpeded flow of public transportation, and create conditions for emergency services to pass more quickly.

During the first 15 days of operation of the “Phantom” patrol cars in Kyiv and the surrounding region, officers issued 24,000 citations for speeding.
The Ukrainian Patrol Police will expand the patrol areas covered by “Phantom” vehicles and increase their numbers on the roads. Specifically, these specialized vehicles will be deployed in the Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, and there are also plans to intensify patrols in the Kyiv region.
