Ukraine will reimburse up to 50% of the costs associated with forest restoration
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved new procedures for the use of state budget funds to finance initiatives in the forestry and hunting sectors. The document provides, in particular, for compensation of up to 50% of the cost of forest restoration work, as well as funding for measures to conserve and protect forest stands.
According to the Ministry of Hunting and Agriculture of Ukraine, the document establishes a mechanism for state support of the forestry sector aimed at restoring forests damaged by the war, strengthening their protection, and ensuring sustainable resource management.
What is provided for
In particular, budget funds are to be allocated for the following main areas:
partial compensation of up to 50% of the cost of forest restoration work in areas where hostilities are ongoing or have taken place, or which were under temporary occupation;
maintaining a state forest cadastre to generate up-to-date and reliable information on the state of forest resources;
conducting a national forest inventory to obtain representative data on their condition, timber reserves, and biodiversity;
funding for forest management by permanent forest users who do not harvest timber through main-use logging.
"As a result of Russian aggression, approximately 2.9 million hectares of Ukrainian forests have suffered varying degrees of damage, and over 690,000 hectares require demining. Under these circumstances, the state must ensure an effective mechanism for financing the restoration and protection of forest ecosystems," emphasized Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.
This was reported by the Ministry of Economy.
