Ukraine lacks influenza vaccines ahead of the epidemic season

Since the beginning of the epidemiological season in Ukraine, the risks of influenza have increased significantly. It is known that this year Ukrainians will be exposed to the strains A/Missouri/11/2025 (H1N1), A/Singapore/GP20238/2024 (H3N2) and B/Austria/1359417/2021. It is important to note that there are currently no vaccines that can protect the population in Ukraine. The Ministry of Health reported that it is only responsible for mandatory vaccinations, while flu vaccines are voluntary.

The stocks of vaccines that were previously available in pharmacies have already run out. Currently, only 100,667 doses of French-made vaccines that have passed quality control and 136,000 doses from South Korea have been registered and are already on sale. The head of the Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention claims that demand for vaccines has decreased, and this year half as many doses have been imported as last year, as the lack of vaccination has led to the disposal of large amounts of unused stocks.

The situation is further complicated by the approaching flu outbreak in late December. Doctors advise not to delay vaccination if you experience symptoms of the disease, such as fever, headache, cough. It is important to take preventive measures to avoid infection, including wearing masks in public places. Questions remain about the possibility of stable availability of vaccines in the near future.
